Most cyber attacks do not start with clever code — they start with a weak password, a convincing e-mail or a device that was never updated. A few habits block most of them.

Use strong, unique passwords

Use a different password for every important account and let a password manager remember them. Turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered.

Think before you click

Phishing messages create urgency: “your account will be closed”, “invoice attached”. Check the sender, hover over links and, when in doubt, contact the company directly.

Keep everything updated

Updates fix security holes. Turn on automatic updates for your operating system, browser and apps.

Back up what matters

Keep regular backups of important files, ideally one copy offline. If something goes wrong, you can restore instead of paying or losing data.
